Feather Extension Headband Tutorial

Hey all my friends....
Hope you are having a great three day weekend!
I am back with a new, quick, accessory tutorial.
When I was in California this feather thing has become all the rage. When I went to get my hair done every woman in the place had one. Not so much like this one, but the skinny ones that you can curl and all that.
I saw something like this one I made at Forever 21 and thought it would be a simple accessory project!

Anyways, I am not entirely sure they are my style yet, but I thought maybe someone would enjoy this little tutorial I came up with. It is super easy and these feathers are just a headband "a la Steven Tyler" and his large feather extensions.

What you will need:
  • Headband (I ended up using a clear one to blend better with blonde hair, but anything would work depending on if you want it to show or not)
  • Feathers
  • Ribbon
  • Glue Gun

  •
  • First I hot glued one feather to the end of the ribbon.
  • I then measure the ribbon about a foot and then hot glued it so to the headband so one length was shorter than the other. ( I measured it from my ear so the first one hung the same length as my hair)
  • The second side I left longer, cut and then glued the second feather.

That's it! So simple and quick! You could add jewels or wrap the whole headband, whatever you would like. It's a fun accessory to have in your set for when you are feeling extra funky!
Have you guys seen them?
Are they popular where you are?

Tornadoes: both real and perceived

I woke up this morning to the devastating news of the many killed and all of the destruction in the tornadoes in Missouri.
I know no one in that area
but the loss and devastation is haunting none the less.

I have been having a hard time getting back into blogging and getting back into the swing of things here after coming back from vacation. I feel like I am watching my own tornado in my life.

Have you ever felt that way? I have been saying the past couple of days that I feel like I am in the eye of a storm. Nothing is hurting me, personally, physically at the moment, but everywhere I look around me is massive destruction and heart break and loss and pain.

And that is the thing with tornadoes, there is not much you can do when they are blowing through.

They are so much bigger than us
that sometimes I feel like all we can do is watch them
in horror
at what we are seeing
and feel weak to save,
prevent,
hope
for anything
but massive destruction.
We just have to...
watch and
then hope there is something to salvage
from the wreckage.

How do you guys deal with these storms of life, whether yours or those you love whom you can't help?

{My love and condolences to any of you who have experienced loss
in these recent storms}
