Hello Eisy Morgan Readers! My name is Kristin, and you can usually find me blogging over at Living Graciously along with three other wonderful girls. I love writing, dancing, crafting, traveling, cooking, and my husband (to name a few). Ashley was so sweet to have me guest blog over here, and today I thought I would share a quick little DIY project with you I made recently for my sister's bridal shower: a framed chalkboard.

I started out by finding a framed picture at the thrift store for $3.00. There was no glass in it, and it had a nice solid wooden frame. I chose to use spray chalkboard paint over the rolled kind because I had heard that it's difficult to get the surface perfectly smooth with a brush or rubber roller. I would highly recommend the spray...it was super easy to work with!
I first primed with a gray spray primer, and let it dry. Then took a rough paper towel and “sanded” it just to smooth everything out.
Now it's time for the chalkboard paint! Spray on 2-3 coats (depending on how well it's covering) and let dry thoroughly (at least 24 hours) before using.
For the frame, I used some antique gold acrylic paint and a sponge brush to just lightly apply a distressed finish.
Because I was going for a vintage look for the shower theme, I finished off the project with an inner lining of crocheted lace.
To season your chalkboard (which IS necessary!) before use, take the side of a piece of chalk and rub over the whole board. Erase, and you're ready to go! Ta-Da! Now I'm looking for what else I can turn into a chalkboard ;-)!
Living Graciously is a very diverse blog. Besides DIY tutorials like the above, you'll also find (among other things):
One of my favorite growing pages at LG is The Personal Shopper where I share great deals, steals, and reviews with you - all for items that aid in living a gracious lifestyle! You'll want to be sure and subscribe to TPS, so that the updates are delivered right to your inbox...some deals are only good for 24 hours (or less), so you won't want to miss out on them!
Lastly, I recently opened a handmade shop called Kristin's Vintage Garden where I sell all things floral and vintage!
